Affirmative Care for All People

“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” - Audre Lorde

All care should be affirmative, as therapy should serve as a safe place of hope and empowerment for all people. For people who identify as LGBTQIA+, it needs to be explicitly so, to acknowledge unique needs and ensure that the therapeutic space nurtures growth, self-acceptance, and resilience in a world that primarily operates from a cisgender and heteronormative point of view.

Affirmative therapy is more than just accepting one's identity—rather, it is a celebration of the diverse tapestry of LGBTQIA+ identities and relationships. But even within therapeutic spaces, heteronormative biases can subtly interfere, impacting the well-being of LGBTQIA+ clients. Because of this, affirmative care is critical in providing a safe place that cherishes and validates all experiences.

Why LGBTQIA+ Affirmative Care?

As a therapist, I not only acknowledge but actively celebrate the full spectrum of LGBTQIA+ identities and relationships. By understanding and addressing the negative influences of homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism, I actively work to prevent microaggressions that frustrate personal growth and healing.

Affirmative therapy addresses the psychological impact of societal biases, allowing you to share your unique journey with openness and vulnerability. The power of this approach lies in its validation of your lived experiences.

I value offering LGBTQIA+ care, offering support to queer and trans young people, adults, and couples. I am dedicated to understanding the unique challenges that LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples may encounter on their journey, and recognize the importance of creating a safe and affirming space where clients can openly explore their identities and experiences with understanding. My commitment to providing comprehensive care involves a holistic approach that considers all aspects of clients' lives, identities, and intersectionalities.
